This is a special resource page to assist with online learning during the coronavirus pandemic.  These are newer resources offered specifically for our current situation.  Some are for classroom use and others offer professional development. Other resources are still available on the Teacher Resource pages organized by discipline.

Several local museums are joining together in an effort to collect the stories of how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting the lives of Nebraskans.

Below is a sample of the museums and libraries who are actively collecting items related to the COVID-19 pandemic. These organizations are looking to preserve the impact of this global crisis on our community to create a record for future generations. Please support your local history organizations and engage with any or all of us as we seek to create a lasting history of how residents responded to and overcame the global pandemic.

Dear Teachers,

We really miss seeing your smiling faces and hearing your students’ awesome questions and stories at the Nebraska History Museum this spring. It’s not the same without you!

History Nebraska’s museum and sites may be closed, but our staff are open to working in new ways. Our hope is to keep engaging students with Nebraska history in this “in between” time. To make this happen, we’ve launched the History Learning Toolkit designed to meet these outcomes:
o   Sparking curiosity
o   Increasing Nebraska history knowledge
o   Practicing and building historical thinking skills (such as object-reading and understanding multiple perspectives)

The History Learning Toolkit is the webpage on the History Nebraska website where you will find an ever-growing resource of object-based mini-lessons filmed in the History Nebraska’s museum and sites.
Each mini-lesson will feature:
·       A 5-minute video segment of our staff sharing objects, exhibits, or historic sites
·       Supporting resources such as
o   Active Listening Worksheets for students
o   Additional resource links
o   Vocabulary per segment
We want to share this starting point of the toolkit with you today. There’s more to come for the Nebraska Unwrapped exhibit as well as mini-lessons from the Thomas P. Kennard House, Senator George Norris’ home in McCook, and the Piecing Together the Past (Archeology) and Votes for Women exhibits at the Nebraska History Museum.

We look forward to growing it with you.

Of course, the History Learning Toolkit will be even more useful with your input. We welcome your questions, suggestions, and comments as we grow online together!

On behalf of the education staff and volunteers from the History Nebraska, wishing you every good.
Sincerely,

Jessica Stoner

Free Unit Lesson Plans For High School Teachers of Psychology

APA is offering complimentary unit lesson plans to high school psychology teachers to support teachers adapting to school changes due to the coronavirus pandemic. Lesson plans are three- to seven-day units that include a procedural timeline, a content outline, suggested resources and activities and references.
These materials were produced by Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (TOPSS), which represents the needs of psychology teachers at the high school level.

                           *******************************************************************************
Thanks to our friends at Humanities Nebraska for providing this list of virtual museum tours!
